CoolSculpting is no longer the New Kid on the Block in the field of aesthetic medicine. This fat-freezing protocol has been widely used for long enough now that it has established a proven track record of success. In addition to sculpting various areas of the body, including the thighs and midsection, where fat seems to be most stubborn, CoolSculpting is now frequently used as a non-surgical treatment to eliminate double-chin fat. Here, we offer a few tips to get the most from your CoolSculpting treatment.
Make Sure You Are a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting
Non-surgical fat reduction using freezing temperature sounds pretty appealing, even if you have a general distaste for the cold. In many situations, this approach is ideal. However, CoolSculpting isn’t perfect for everyone. This modality was developed with the intent of body-contouring in mind, not substantial fat reduction. Each treatment induces a biological process through which approximately 20 percent of the fat in a target area is destroyed. Individuals with larger areas or more substantial fatty tissue may get better results from surgical liposuction than non-surgical body contouring.
Another aspect of CoolSculpting that determines who is a good candidate is the limitations of freezing temperatures on the skin. While precise cooling has the intended effect on fat cells, cool temperatures do not cause superficial tissue to contract and tighten. We want our patients to achieve results that they love, so we may discuss other modalities that may compliment CoolSculpting.
Develop Habits that Support Long-Term Results
Immediately after CoolSculpting, the treatment area is massaged. The reason we do this is that massage increases the body’s natural fat-eliminating capabilities. To maximize results, patients may also want to wear a light compression garment. This facilitates comfort during recovery and also helps the body to conform to new contours. Finally, fat-elimination occurs through the lymphatic system, and this system relies on adequate hydration to work efficiently. After CoolSculpting treatment, it is wise to increase water consumption beyond the recommendation of 8 glasses a day.
The fat destruction that occurs after CoolSculpting delivers permanent results in terms of the number of fat cells that live in the body. No new fat cells will grow to replace those that are eliminated. However, because remaining fat cells can expand, we encourage patients to develop lifestyle habits that include healthy, whole foods and daily exercise to keep the body in optimal fat-burning mode.
