What is a Lip Flip?
Dr. Dean Kane, a plastic surgeon in Baltimore, has been performing lip flips for well over 20 years. While the name Lip Flip is the new trendy name, Dr. Kane has been using Botox to reduce lip wrinkles, to relax the muscles around the lips to allow for pouty and fuller lips.
How Does the Lip Flip Work?
Dr. Kane injects approximately 4 units of Botox or 10 units of Dysport into the vermillion border of the upper lip. The Botox and Dysport relax the lip muscles so the lips naturally flip outward making for a pretty pouty smile. The lips appear to be fuller, but there is nothing in lips to make them larger. A filler would need to be used to actually make the lip plumper and larger along with the Botox.
Tight Lip or Gummy Smile Lips
For patients with a tight thin smile, the combination is absolutely perfect. By injecting the lips with both at the same time, Dr. Kane is able to achieve a fuller lip and a much more relaxed lip so the lips can appear fuller and poutier.

Fully Enhanced Lips
For the patient desiring very full, plump, and pouty lips, using a dermal filler such as Restylane Kysse or Lyft with Dysport is ideal. The filler actually plumps and volumizes the lips while the Dysport relaxes the muscles of the lip that turn the lips outward.

The Aging Lips
For the Aging Lip for women have lost a lot of volume in their lips resulting in a very thin lip with a lot of wrinkles. The combination of fillers and Botox are both needed to plump out the lips and stop the wrinkling of the lip borders. In this case, Botox is injected into the upper and lower lip border as well as fillers in both the bottom and top of the lips.

What is the Difference Between a Lip Flip and a Lip Lift?
A lip flip is a non-surgical lift of the lips using Botox or Dysport. It is a temporary flip of the upper lip that will last up to 8 to 12 weeks. A lip lift is a surgical lift that reduces the space between the top of the upper lip to the base of the nose. An incision is made along the base of the nose. The skin is surgically removed to shorten the space and also lift the upper lip to a more outward and pouty appearance. This is a permanent lift of the upper lip, however, there are also permanent scars at the base of the nose. While they usually fade, there is no guarantee of the quality of this permanent scar.
Can I Use Threads to Lift My Lips?
Yes, the PDO Threadlift can be used to lift the upper lip to shorten the space between the base of the nose and the lip border. Dr. Kane numbs the lips and places the threads in a “U” shape lifting the lip border up and outward thereby shortening the space between the lip and the nose. Botox would also be used at the same time so that while the threads are settling, the Botox relaxes the upper lip to help maintain and support the threadlift of the upper lip border.
The PDO Thread Lip Lift is a minimally invasive procedure so there is no cutting, no surgery, or scars that are placed in the lips or the base of the nose. The PDO Thread lip lift will last up to 6 to 12 months.
