Q. Is it better to get a laser resurfacing procedure or just go for the facelift? I am 70 years old and recently my age is beginning to show on my face (i.e.: sagging, looking tired even when rested). I am still working full time and I cannot afford very expensive procedures. Please advise what would be my best and affordable choice.
A. Without an evaluation or at the very least some photos, I cannot provide an opinion but there are some generalized foundations to consider.
- Cell turn-over and collagen production are the primary forces for maintaining the youthful image. From the age of 30, the body reduces skin cell turn-over and collagen restoration. Consider a non-surgical skin stimulating regimen using retinoids and chemical peels such as Zein Obagi’s, ZO Skin Health managed by a ZO Skin Health Certified team.
- If you can “pinch more than an inch” of skin along your jawline, there is no non-surgical option which will tighten your skin effectively without a surgical facelift as the initial restoring procedure. Learn more about face lift procedures.
- Minimally invasive (MIN) procedures will provide a spectrum of filling, firming, wrinkle reduction and tightening. A laser can make a difference depending on the depth of skin penetration. Do not expect surgical results with MIN procedures.
- Consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to evaluate your desires and needs considering cost, recovery, medical health, future desires and expectations.
