Dr. Dean Kane, Plastic Surgeon in Baltimore explains how Microneedling treatment fits into the Anti-Aging spectrum?

In Dr. Dean Kane’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa, we offer a range of medspa treatments with the goal of achieving healthy glowing skin. One of these treatments is MicroNeedling with PRP is an exception treatment for skin rejuvenation. Similar to dermabrasion, it provides a breadth of care from microdermabrasion exfoliation to dermal injury with significant collagen production. Unlike dermabrasion which fell out of favor because of the tissue plume, MicroNeedling stimulates collagen induction and skin turnover by creating micro-channels of injury in the epidermal to dermal skin stimulating cellular awakening via controlled inflammation.

MicroNeedling can be performed singly on a 3 to 4 weeks schedule for those who aren’t consistent with daily skin stimulation. It is also used in packages to boost the effects of daily skin rejuvenation.

Dr. Dean Kane’s skin philosophy on how to achieve cosmetic improvement of the skin and why MicroNeedling works:

  1. Aging skin is the passive reduction of skin repair. There is no aging gene per se. What does occur from gestation to your 20’s is a genetic disposition to build and repair of each organ system. Following your 30’s, your immune system gently reduces the ability to repair itself without being provoked. Think vaccines, without a stimulus, the body does not form antibodies to viruses and bacteria. The same is true with skin damage and injury.
  2. Skin rejuvenation occurs by induction of the cellular machine to make more structural and “hormonal” cellular messaging. In a sense, something has to wake-up and continuously stimulate the skin cells to turn over, replicate and produce the molecules required to maintain strength, environmental barrier and youthfulness. Once stimulated, by microneedling, the micro-injury or micro-stimulation will produce a cascade of “healing and rejuvenation” which wakes up the dermal cells to produce collagen and elastin. The anti-aging components of the skin.

Considering our experience of over 25 years in the Cosmetic Medicine field and Dr. Dean Kane’s second Board Certification in Anti-Aging Medicine, we find our best results in skin rejuvenation are to use a combine approach of ZO Skin Health Retin-A / Retinol stimulation with a variety of boosters to achieve higher levels of skin color evenness, smoother texture, smaller pores, diminished blemishes, progressive tightening, silkiness and a beautiful flush.  Depending on your unique skin quality and personal goals for skin improvement, Dr. Kane recognizes there are 3 “silo’s of skin rejuvenation options: non-invasive, minimally invasive and surgical. MicroNeedling falls into the minimally invasive silo and ZO Skin Health ties all 3 silos together.

To review, Dr. Kane recommends a continuous skin stimulation with Retin-A and Retinols with the ZO Skin Health Program with occasional boosts of specific procedures like MicroNeedling to heighten the response of collagen and cell induction.
