I was told to use Belotero by my Doctor, but I’m seeing Restylane as the filler of choice for eye troughs. Help!

Dr. Dean Kane Q & A Q. I’ve been considering under-eye surgery to remove the bags, but was told that I’m not a prime candidate yet because I won’t be able to achieve the tightness I want without causing droopy lids. I’m considering fillers for now. I’m seeing that the overall consensus seems to be that Restylane or Juvederm is the preferred choice, but my Oculoplastic Surgeon wants to go with Belotero. Should I be concerned with his recommendation? A. Consultation with a Oculoplastics Surgeon is a great first choice. Belotero and like “thinner, smoother” hyaluronic acid (HA) gels such as Silk are useful in the dermal skin layer of tissues.  This maybe helpful to camouflage the eyelid-cheek and possibly the nasojugal (tear trough) folds under your eyes. I am not a proponent of this technique and recommend deeper HA fillers of “thicker, more projecting and volumizing” gels in this area. These are all advanced techniques. It is most wise to obtain other Board Certified, 2nd opinion consultations from Oculoplastics, Plastic or ENT Facial Surgeons for this difficult area particularly if you are not a prime candidate for cosmetic blepharoplasty. Possibly you require a reconstructive mid-face lift with suspension blepharoplasty or different options in fillers. Good luck in exploring your options. I wish you the best!
