Dr. Dean Kane Answers Questions Regarding Lip Asymmetry

Q: Will Botox help relax my lip muscle, or should I do lip reduction?

Hi, I need advice on what’s the best thing I should do with my upper lip. I used to thumb suck when I was little. I had braces 5 years ago but it didn’t help with the lips appearance as much. I went to a dentist recently asking if I should do braces again. She said it won’t help as much & told me to do exercises for my lips since the cause of the outward position of my lips is just muscle memory. I was wondering if botox would help relax the muscle & if I should do lip reduction. Thank you

A: Thanks for sharing your photos. Your lips are beautiful and should be left alone. Your upper lip is not a problem. While the photos are limited, it appears your chin is retruded and / or your maxilla is prognathic. Botox will not help. While there are temporary ways to help this with fillers, bone surgery may be required. Please consult with a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon or Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with Craniofacial expertise.

I wish you the best!
