A. 3 muscle relaxers, Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are approved by the FDA for use to diminish the “11” lines between the eyebrows. Botox is also approved for the Crow’s Feet wrinkles along the outer brow area. All 3 are used “off-label” for re-balancing the muscles of expression primarily of the forehead.
Cosmetic injectible use is both an art and a science. The sciences is that each medication relaxes muscles which create expressions and spasms of the face and neck. The art is in the talent and skill of the injector to achieve a new balance in expression and a reduction of facial wrinkles. Wrinkling occurs when a muscle underneath or attached to the skin folds from contraction. Over time, this leads to a permanent line in the dermis of the skin.
