Q. How often should I get Botox Injections?
A. Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau (the “NewTox) all have very similar longevity within the forehead. They last 3 to 4 months in most patients. In the first 2 weeks all of these neurotoxins get to their maximum holding strength and stays that way up to 4 months. The effects begin to diminish in this last month and Dr. Dean Kane, an expert Botox injector in Baltimore, MD for over 35 years, recommends that you don’t wait till they completely lost their effects.
It is best to overlap your treatments so that you don’t start making the wrinkles and lines in the forehead again. Once you develop an actual crease in the skin, Botox will stop you from making the lines and wrinkles, but it cannot reverse the actual crease in the skin.
When patients come to us with a deep crease, Dr. Kane will recommend to use a dermal filler to plump out the line along with the Botox. Patients who just rely on the Botox alone are often disappointed that they still can see the “11”s. By using the dermal fillers within the crease it almost erases the lines and lasts an entire year of time. So while you still have to do the Botox injections every 4 months, you only need to use the filler just once a year. This combination will give you a beautiful smooth forehead along with Dr. Kane’s technique to get a non surgical brow-lift effect.
