Q. Is it uncommon for a doctor to provide both CoolSculpting and Liposuction procedures? In my research it generally seems like dermatologists offer CoolSculpting, whereas plastic surgeons offer liposuction. Why is that? Are there doctors who provide both? I’m looking for an unbiased consultation and want to know more about this split.
A. You are quite astute in your observation. Yes, there are a few of us that provide both for many reasons such as:
- To provide CoolSculpting as a limited (up to 25% fat reduction per applicator) but effective non-surgical fat reduction (since there is no surgical component, non-surgeons have flocked to this opportunity). Look for a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon with Certification from the CoolSculpting Institute.
- To offer a more comprehensive and smoother body, face and neck lipo-contouring with 80 to 90% fat reduction of a larger surface area. This requires skill and talent, surgical training, anesthesia and significant post-operative knowledge and care. Best provided by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
- As you mention, those with both provide a more unbiased range of options for the patient.
Each option has its benefits and limitations. Please seek consultation on both until you are trusting and pleased with the Board Certified Physician of choice. I wish you well with this journey. All the best!
