Plastic Surgeon Dr. Dean Kane of Baltimore Answers Question Regarding Timing of Hair Recoloring along Facelift Incision Lines

Dr. Dean Kane Q. How long after facelift is it safe to color hair, should hairdresser put anything on scar before color?

A. My recommendations are to color your hair 2 weeks prior facelift incisions and any time after 6 weeks along as everything is healed. Of course this leaves 99% of your hair not along the incision line, so use a ointment such as aquaphor or vaseline over the incision during the post-op coloring.

The hair coloring chemicals are significantly damaging to the open incision and hair root. You may cause inflammation and hair loss if coloring too soon.
