Q: Will a breast augmentation give me fuller, rounder breasts? When I think about breast implants I always picture really fake looking balloon shaped boobs. Is it possible to get a breast augmentation to give me fuller, rounder breasts, without making them look so fake?
A: I see you have asked several excellent questions. All should be answered with in-person consultation due to the variations of each patient. In general, saline versus silicone gel implants will provide a different appearance as:
- Saline implants tend to push away from the center of the implant therefore making the breast appear rounder.
- Silicone implants tend to pull in toward the center of the implant changing shape according to breast position; ie:
- flatter rounder with lying, and
- tear drop shaped when vertical.
More petite, thinner and nulliparous women may have tighter skin initially but less resistant to the weight and forces of the implant.
Different desires due to width of the chest wall will determine beginning “foot print” of the implant and then projection and cleavage are to be considered.
Potential for capsule contracture or other capsule laxity deformities need to be discussed and therefore use of smooth versus textured implants options considered.
Augmented breasts fall into a range of too soft to jiggly to firm to hard. “Fake” tend to be uncomfortably big looking, high and ball shaped but fake looking implanted breasts for one person may be naturally desired by another.
As you see, you will fall into a vast range of implant “looks” and those looks will change with age, pregnancy, skin and breast support changes.
