Plastic Surgeon Dr. Dean Kane of Baltimore Answers Question Regarding CoolSculpting Concerns over a Umbilical Hernia

Q. Can CoolSculpting be done over the navel? I feel like I need another treatment. I had coolsculpting done on my abdomen in Oct 2017, I feel like I need another treatment, however my “pinchable” fat is almost directly over my navel. I’ve seen pics and reviews on here where the pad was placed over the navel but my Dr says it shouldn’t be, that it’s not safe to do. Can you tell me what your opinions are on this subject?

A. Yes, CoolSculpting can be performed across the navel. The safest scenario is:

  1. no hernia,
  2. use CoolSculpting Advantage (newest) applicators with more gentle suction and wider surface area with improved efficiency.

Should you have a hernia, you may consider hernia repair first and consultation with a Certified CoolSculpting Team for variations in technique to safeguard against  hernia content injury.

As a high volume, Certified CoolSculpting Practice, I am unaware of any hernia injuries in the millions of CoolSculpting procedures performed.

I wish you the very best!
