How soon after mastectomy can I have facelift and rhinoplasty?

Dr. Dean Kane Q & A shutterstock_62847412 Q. How soon after mastectomy can I have facelift and rhinoplasty? Assuming my mastectomy has no complications and I don’t need radiotherapy, and I heal quickly…..how soon will I be able to have a facelift and rhinoplasty? A. Nice to hear from you again. I am sorry you will have to have a mastectomy. I hope the tumor has been caught early and you become cancer free! Your question is multi-faceted and must be discussed with your internist, plastic surgeon(s), oncologist and yourself.
  • Technically, the surgery may be performed as soon as your are healing your mastectomy with no complications and no need for further adjunctive therapy. Your body must be in optimal shape to tolerate a facelift and rhinoplasty. You can expect 2 to 3 weeks recovery from your facial surgery and a elevated level of fatigue if both mastectomy and facelift / rhinoplasty are performed within 3 to 6 weeks.
  • Psychologically, your desired surgery may assist you in recovering from cancer surgery BUT cosmetic surgery itself generates a “roller coaster” of emotions which may worsen your mental image during the healing process too.
  • For both necessary and desired surgery, a good support team to assist you physically and personally is most important.
I hope this is helpful. I wish you the very best!
