Should applicators be used on the upper arm?

Dr. Dean Kane Q & A Q. I’ve had 2 consults with people who have been through the CoolSculpting school. One told me 2 separate applicators because 1 will not fit the full length of the arm & she wouldn’t want to leave me with a fat elbow. The other told me she would use 1 applicator per arm. She stated she could not go to the elbow because it could cause problems with a nerve in my arm. A. Good questions! CoolSculpting  (CS) is tried and true! If you continue to desire a non-surgical option, use the properly positioned applicators as often as you need to receive accumulated results! We are all concerned about any injury to skin and nerves but this is nearly unheard of. Fat is more sensitive to the cooling effects of skin and nerves. Sensory nerves will also cool as they are more superficial and contained with in the fat pulled into the applicator. You can anticipate numbness for 0 to 3 weeks or more but will resolve. The deeper nerve near the elbow is deep to the fat being lifted into the suction applicator or the CoolSmooth device. While the possibility of this nerve being cooled exists, I am unaware of any permanent injury. While CS is best used for fat reduction it can cause skin shrinkage (this is not promised or warrantied) but may leave some skin laxity. Certain areas around the arm and elsewhere  on the body and face do not shrink well so consider ThermiRF, a new device designed for skin tightening. It is of most importance to be evaluated by a well experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and his / her Certified CoolSculpting  and ThermiRF Team. They will provide for you the best opportunity  for success. I hope this was helpful. All the best!   This information is not meant as medical advice. It is provided solely for education.
