Q: I’m having a facelift and a blepharoplasty done by two different surgeons (it’s my preference). Which one should I do first?
A: Interesting question given the premise that 2 surgeons, presumably at 2 different times will perform eyelid lift and facelift surgery. You will have 2 different recovery periods and additional costs.
1. If it is the upper eyelid lift and facelift, then there is no advantage to having either one done first as there is no adjacent pulling forces on either one. You could even have one of them done during the recovery of the other but I would choose the facelift first and the more delicate upper eyelid and shorter recovery time after.
2. If it is the lower eyelids and a facelift, then I would consider the facelift first with 3 months or more of healing / recovery as:
a) the swelling and possible internal pulling at the cheek – lower eyelid junction may pull the lower lid down and cause rounding or ectropion, and
b) the eyelid surgeon may smooth the cheek – lower eyelid junction (depending on his/her skills) following the healing and potential upward lift and eyelid creasing of the facelift.
