Plastic Surgeon Dr. Dean Kane of Baltimore Answers Question Regarding Double Chin/Jowl Problems
Q. What options do I have for a heavy neck/double chin and jowls?
A. Many non-surgical, minimally invasive and surgical options for enhancing the appearance of a “Double Chin” / “Turkey neck”, full necks or simply a little wiggle of skin laxity are now available. These include:
1. Surgical procedures include:
a. “mini” lipo-contouring
b. Facial lipo-contouring (of the lower cheeks, jowl, jawline, double chin and neck) and neck suspension
c. Facial lipo-contouring and neck muscle lift (platysmaplasty) with or without neck suspension
d. Direct excision, ie. surgical incision with visual removal of the fat
2. Non-Surgical procedure Fat freezing using the CoolSculpting Cool-Mini applicator for under the chin and small fat bulges
3. And, now, a Minimally Invasive procedure called ThermiTIGHT. This revolutionary procedure is able to shrink the skin and stimulate collagen production for patients with skin laxity not requiring skin excision or muscle tightening.
While the alternatives are expanding, you should expect a far smaller improvement with non-surgical and minimally invasive options as you would from surgical procedures for neck enhancement. Dr. Dean Kane has received Certification in the use of Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting and use of the new Cool-Mini applicator. He and his Team are also Certified in the use of ThermiRF for non-invasive and micro-invasive options. Dr. Kane is also Board Certification in Plastic Surgery with Added Certification in Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery,
When improvement of the muscle bands and loose skin become an issue, these minimally invasive and non-surgical options will not provide adequate tightening and lift. For these improvements, a traditional face and neck lift including a cheek elevation (SMASplasty), a platysmaplasty, neck suspension and / or redraping and removal of excess skin are surgically necessary.
I hope this was helpful! All the best.
