Is it possible and/or recommended to have Mini-Facelift and Laser Lipo at the same time?

Dr. Dean Kane Q & A 7K0A0079 Q. I’m a 33-year old healthy female. I’d like to get laser lipo on my lower body (buttocks, thighs, love handles and tummy – the whole shabang!) as well as a mini-facelift. I’d like to minimize time off work, social life and exercise, so was thinking of combining the treatments. Is it possible to do them at the same time, or which should go first (especially as I wish to return to heavy exercise as soon as possible)? Thank you! A. I appreciate the dilemma! There are just not enough “days in an hour”! The answer is “Yes it is possible; No, I do not recommend it”. The main issues of immediate concern to me without having the opportunity of a in-person consultation are: · This is a lot of body surface area, how much fat will be removed? How long is the Laser Lipo scheduled for? Why do YOU need Laser Liposuction versus traditional tumescent liposuction? Who will care for you following the procedure. o Liposuction over 1000 cc’s is complicated by body changes in temperature, type of anesthesia, swelling and proper hydration. This may affect the “mini-Facelift” performed at the same time. · What is the definition of YOUR “mini-Facelift”? Will there be incisions? Is this the correct procedure for your concerns. If performed after the Laser Liposuction and your face is swollen, this will not provide an optimum result. If performed before the Laser Lipo, swelling and positioning for the body surgery will affect the incision lines. o Post-operative care, hygiene, eating, dressing and activities of daily life are a concern. Who will help you? · Small or large incision or liposuction, it takes about the same time to heal, in most cases 6 to 12 weeks before I recommend returning to exertional activities. The body goes through a process to mend the tissues that were injured. The more surgery one has, the more areas need to heal. The more re-injury, the longer and greater magnitude for you healing response to complete itself. Discuss these concerns and your desire to return to “heavy exercise”. Remember, these are elective cosmetic procedures. Give yourself the best chance to get the best result. I hope this is helpful. All the best!   This information is not meant as medical advice.
