Q. I would like to try Restylane to improve acne scarring. I do not have active acne flare ups but every now and then will get one pimple that will remain for weeks. I presently have one (very small) and am wondering if I need to postpone the Restylane until it’s completely gone.
A. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid clear gel filler made from scaffolding molecules located in the skin. If the injection is not near the pimple, you will probably be able to proceed.
A pimple is a raised dome of sebum or oil produced by the moisturizing glands of the skin. The skin itself contains bacteria which if occluded as in a pimple, will become red and infected. I would recommend against a filler injection if you have such an infection.
Please discuss this with your well experienced, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist.
I wish you all the best! Is it safe to have Restylane injections if I have a small pimple?
