Expertise Matters! 25 Years of Plastic Surgery Practice

It is newly quoted that an expert is one who performs his craft over 10,000 hours. That is 5 years in an employee’s world of 2000 hours per year and significantly less in a medical world whose physician works not 40 hour weeks but 60 and 80 hour weeks. I am Dean Kane, a board certified Plastic Surgeon. I work hand-in-hand with the most terrific group of medical staff we call, “Team Kane”. Lauri, my wife, administrates the practice including patient education, administrative leadership and marketing. This team did not develop without great time and effort to bring together a fluid and cohesive group of dedicated staff for the treatment and care of our patients. I have been in plastic and reconstructive surgery practice for over 25 years! This includes 21 years of solo practice.  There is also an additional 7 years of residency in general surgery and plastic surgery, 4 years of medical school and 2 summers prior to this in medical rotations such as the emergency room, autopsy and pathology, gynecology, operating room and the basic science laboratory! While my interests are vast, my desire is to help people. As an expert, I am a doer and a learner. I never stop performing my craft in order to innovate and add knowledge to perfect the art and the science of what I do. I am a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). I am certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The ABPS is approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. Many health care providers are now performing plastic surgery procedures, but that doesn’t mean they’re all qualified to perform plastic surgery. ASPS Member Surgeons are trained in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures of all types. As a board certified Plastic Surgeon I adhere to the code of ethics and educational requirements held by this Society. My practice upholds the highest levels of accreditation and personal review. My office operating facilities are accredited by the AAAASF ( American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities ). We maintain the highest levels of safety. Our office staff is certified in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).  Our medical staff is certified in ACLS ( Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and the use of the AED ( Automated External Defibrillator). Continued Medical Education (CME) in the art of body contouring  is a new and evolving arena of skills for patients following  lap band, gastroplasty or gastric by-pass or lifestyle changes succeeding in Massive Weight Loss. Harmony of the face and body are learned techniques which I have applied over 32 years of surgical care. I have gone well beyond the minimum of educational requirement to maintain my medical license and professional memberships. Today, we have grown to a staff of 10 with a MediSpa offering an entire spectrum of non-surgical and minimally invasive rejuvenation procedures. We have two fully licensed experienced medical Aestheticians and facial massage therapists. We offer a full range of products which have been selected for function and value. Many of these products have been created and mixed specifically to achieve our patient’s needs. Many skin therapies range from cleansers, toners, moisturizers and acne formulations. My patients enjoy a state-of-the-art office surgical facility (surgicenter) primarily offering monitored anesthesia care and intra-venous sedation.  This combination has been found to provide the best anesthetic experience with the least risk of gas anesthesia side-effects such as nausea and vomiting. Using an extremely low concentration of local anesthetic in the surgical areas called “tumescent technique”, my patients wake up from short and longer procedures much quicker and with minimal or no pain. I have worked with our nurse anesthetist and my current surgical team for over 10 years providing my patients with a level of warmth, care, experience, efficiency and loving unparalleled anywhere and not available in a hospital nor offsite surgical center. Should you fall in the 1% of patients who require general anesthesia, we have those services too and all the up-to-date monitoring and resuscitations systems desired and required to maintain your safety. 25 years of practice is a careful coordination of the “Right Team”.
