What is the recommended procedure for removing excess fat below the chin?

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Dean Kane of Baltimore Answers Question Regarding Double Chin

Q. I recently saw a commercial for Kybella and am also aware of CoolSculpting. Is there a recommended procedure for removing fat below the chin?  What would you recommend and what is the cost?

A. Many non-surgical, minimally invasive and surgical options for enhancing the appearance of a “Double Chin” / “Turkey neck”, full necks or simply a little wiggle of skin laxity are now available. These include:

1.    Surgical procedures include:
a.    “mini” lipo-contouring
b.    Facial lipo-contouring (of the lower cheeks, jowl, jawline, double chin and neck) and neck suspension
c.    Facial lipo-contouring and neck muscle lift (platysmaplasty) with or without neck suspension
d.    Direct excision, ie. surgical incision with visual removal of the fat

2.    Non-Surgical procedure Fat freezing using the CoolSculpting Cool-Mini applicator for under the chin and small fat bulges

3.    ThermiTIGHT is a revolutionary procedure able to shrink the skin and stimulate collagen production for patients with skin laxity not requiring skin excision or muscle tightening.

4.     The thread lift is back using Silhouette InstaLift (SIL) sutures! Doctor Dean Kane‘s experience with prior Contour Threads for a minimally invasive face lift was unparalleled over 10 years ago when this option was removed from the marketplace. Today’s SIL absorbable sutures and anchoring cones lift the tissues of the face, neck, and other areas using simple puncture sites. The sutures themselves are made of absorbable poly-L-lactic acid and poly-glycolic acid which is the foundation of Sculptra and Vicryl molecules stimulating formation of collagen and elastin to maintain the lift in place up to 18 months as well as tighten, firm and improve the skin texture of surrounding skin and soft tissues.

While the alternatives are expanding, you should expect a far smaller improvement with non-surgical and minimally invasive options as you would from surgical procedures for neck enhancement.

Whatever works for you, choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with all of the above options, skills and experience to evaluate and provide the best chance for a great result.
