Dr. Dean Kane Q & A
Q. I had 25 units of botox injected to each masseter muscle last year, but never saw any significant difference. It did shrink slightly, but not by enough. Do I need to get more injected this time?
A. Without photos and / or a proper examination, it is tough to suggest what you will need and if 25 units of Botox per masseter was a proper choice for you.
There are many reasons for a disharmony or imbalance of the upper, mid and lower face including:
- masseter hypertrophy,
- a wide jawline
- fat distribution of the cheeks, jawline and neck
- narrow cheek width
- narrow temple width
If the right diagnosis is masseter hypertrophy, a single dosing of Botox will probably not reduce and atrophy the muscle. You may need several sessions.
