Rhinoplasty

Old things are new again! Just about the time of bell-bottoms, hip huggers and flower power, nose reshaping was all the rage!

Well, here we are again; 3 decades later and chin implants and rhinoplasties are remaking their facial impact as hip hugging skinny jeans, color and flowers are in vogue. While rhinoplasties are complex three dimensional and artistic procedures, newer perspectives and techniques are making these procedures more natural, reproducible and reliable. The once difficult nose job performed through tiny inside nose incisions and tunnel vision had a high rate of revision as surgeons could not adequately weaken and hold the cartilage and bones from moving back. Today’s near imperceptible “open rhinoplasty” provides the nose surgeon direct vision of the 3 dimensional shaping problems to reach the goals of contour and function. While the older style rhinoplasty was primarily reduction of nose contours achieving such names as ski-sloped or pinched, today’s nose job adds bone, soft tissue and cartilage, i.e. augmentation rhinoplasty. This art of increasing or decreasing contours provides for improved air flow and more natural shaped lines of the nose. Both the cosmetic aspect and the ability to breathe better are achieved at the same time. There are different levels of surgical nose reshaping depending on your needs and desires. Changes can be made to the tip, the bump, width, length and size of the nose. A Septoplasty is often encouraged when the septum is deviated and the individual has breathing problems as well. Newer shaped chin implants further provide for balance between the nose, upper lip, lower lip and jaw line. These are placed through the chin-neck crease or submental crease so it is nearly imperceptible. By adding width, projection and shape, chin implants create a stronger appearance and more youthful shape to the jaw and its reflection on the face.
