How often can people have Liposuction Surgeries?

How often can people have Liposuction Surgeries?

Fat is located in 2 areas of the body. The organs in the abdomen and chest are surrounded by fat that can only be reduced at this time with diet and exercise. Fat under the skin is in 2 layers, superficial and deep. It is this deeper subcutaneous fat that is mostly sculpted or contoured by liposuction. Removal of this fat is performed in most cases with a cannula or tube attached to a suction machine. When the fat is too firm or prior liposuction or other injury has created scarring making the fat layer more difficult to remove are other liposuction machines used such as laser, ultrasound, etc. used. Since the majority of liposuction is performed in this deeper thicker fat layer, greater reduction and wider, smoother contouring into adjoining regions will provide a more pleasing result. Returning to an area that has been previously liposuctioned will be more difficult, leading to more irregularities, bumps and deformities due to the prior scarring in that area; so it is best to do it right the first time.

Liposuction with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon,Dr. Dean Kane of Baltimore

In the plastic surgery practice of Dr. Dean Kane in Baltimore Maryland, I strive to do  contour reduction rather than spot fat reduction for several reasons. With spot reduction, the edges of the liposuctioned areas may not be well “feathered” into the surrounding regions and be obvious and saucer shaped rather than smooth and contoured. As I mentioned, if you return to the area to improve on a irregularity, the surgeons hand will pass from smooth sliding fat into an area of irregular, firm to hard fibrous fat and have difficulty in producing a smooth result. Obviously, if the majority of the fat is removed from an area, a second or third return to this area will yield less fat. If you gain weight, the calories and the fat will distribute to other areas of the body including around the organs which cannot be liposuctioned.

Still Need Diet and Exercise

Please remember that liposuction is a body contouring operation and NOT a weight loss procedure. You must change your lifestyle with diet to consume less calories or exercise off more calories.

Multiple Areas of Liposuction

You may of course consider staged liposuction of different body areas at different times as well to achieve the total body contouring you desire. Our Center of Cosmetic Surgery has a fully accredited Operating Room, where we safely perform liposuction procedures and stay within the safe limits of fat removal.

Never Waste Your Fat

We also try to never waste any fat and reuse fat to create a Brazilian Butt Lift or reversely use the fat in the face to plump and rejuvenate the hollows and folds of the face.
