I’m debating getting CoolSculpting done or Liposuction. Which is best?

Dr. Dean Kane Q & A Pinching Side Stomach Q. I’m debating getting CoolSculpting done or Liposuction. Which is best? Which would be best if I want to get rid of 30 pounds? I’m 145 pounds now at 4’11. A. Thanks for posting this important and misunderstood concern! Both CoolSculpting and Liposuction CAN enhance your appearance; neither will reduce your weight. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical body contouring procedure with the potential to improve how you fit and feel in your clothing and if performed in multiple, serial session has the opportunity to give a small liposuction like effect. You can lose up to 20% of the fat with each applicator (ie. approximately the amount of a stick of butter). Liposuction is an artful surgical procedure to sculpt or contour your body’s fat. Up to 90% of the fat cells will be removed. Typically, up to 5 liters of fat cells can be removed. In both cases, the fat cells “frozen” or removed are gone but if you continue to consume the same amount of calories, fat will develop in other cells. Whether you consider liposuction or CoolSculpting or neither one, you will still have to change your lifestyle to lose your goal of 30 pounds. Both nutrition and exercise are important in weight loss and maintenance. There are many philosophies to choose from but I recommend the following the “South Beach Diet” philosophy of losing weight and keeping it off for life;  moderate exercise, low (bad) carbohydrates, small (good) oils and moderate to high proteins with lots of water. I hope this has been helpful and educational. I wish you the best!
